1. Baidu


Mesin pencari online boleh dikatakan sangat identik dengan nama Google. Namun tidak demikian di China. Google selalu kepayahan menuai popularitas di sana karena dikalahkan oleh Baidu.

Ya, sepak terjang Baidu di China memang sangat fenomenal. Mesin cari online besutan warga lokal ini berhasil menuai pangsa pasar domestik sekitar 60%.

Baidu didirikan pada tahun 2000 oleh Robin Li dan Eric Xu dan berkantor pusat di Beijing. Keduanya adalah lulusan perguruan tinggi mancanegara dan sempat juga bekerja di luar negeri sebelum kembali ke China.

2. Tencent


Banyak orang mungkin tidak banyak mengenal Tencent. Namun mereka adalah perusahaan internet terbesar ketiga di dunia dengan nilai kapitalisasi pasar USD 38 miliar, hanya kalah dari Google dan Amazon.

Tencent membuat berbagai macam layanan online, seperti QQ yang adalah jejaring sosial terbesar di China. Pada Desember 2010, pengguna QQ tercatat di kisaran 647 juta.

Tencent juga berbisnis di bidang lain, seperti membuat game sosial dan menjual barang virtual. Dua nama besar di bidang tersebut, Facebook dan Zynga, tidak berdaya di China.

3. Naver


Tidak hanya di China, di Korea Selatan Google juga kewalahan. Pemain lokal bernama Naver berkuasa sebagai mesin cari online paling tenar di Negeri Ginseng ini.

Pangsa pasar Naver pada tahun 2011 berada di kisaran 70% di Korea Selatan. Secara global, Naver menempati ranking lima mesin cari terpopuler setelah Google, Yahoo, Baidu dan Bing.

Naver diluncurkan pada tahun 1999 oleh beberapa mantan karyawan Samsung. Tahun 2009, mereka merilis layanan di Jepang, ekspansi pertamanya ke luar negeri.

4. Mixi


Jepang memang dikenal sebagai negara industri teknologi tinggi. Di negara ini, Facebook kurang terdengar namanya karena tenggelam oleh sepak terjang jejaring sosial lokal bernama Mixi.

Soal belanja online di Jepang, Rakuten jagonya. Penduduk di negara Jepang memang jauh lebih familiar dengan nama Rakuten dibanding situs seperti eBay.

Rakuten adalah semacam mall belanja online yang sukses besar. Pendapatan mereka pada tahun 2011 mencapai USD 4,7 miliar dan mempunyai 10 ribu karyawan di seluruh dunia.
