Salah satu pemberian gelar doktor kehormatan yang menuai kontroversi adalah Universitas Indonesia. Universitas terkemuka di Indonesia ini mengundang perdebatan karena memberikan gelar kehormatan kepada Raja Arab Saudi, Abdullah. UI memberikan gelar karena menilai Abdullah berjasa dalam bidang kemanusiaan. Hal ini menjadi kontroversi karena diketahui, TKI asal Indonesia kerap mengalami penyiksaan di negara kaya minyak tersebut.
Selain UI dan Abdullah, ada beberapa universitas dunia yang membuat kejutan karena memberikan gelar kehormatan kepada insan yang kontroversial. Siapa saja mereka? Berikut daftarnya seperti dikutip dari Telegraph, Rabu (2/11/2011).
1. Courtney Love
Musisi kontroversial asal Amerika Serikat, Courtney Love menerima gelar Binaan Kehormatan dari Trinity College Philosophical Society di Dublin, Irlandia, tahun ini. Janda musisi grunge Kurt Cobain ini menghadiri upacara pemberian penghargaan dengan wajah kusut, sambil mengenakan jaket yang masih ada label harga yang menempel. Love membuat hadirin tertawa geli karena ekspresi wajah yang aneh.
Saat usia 15 tahun, Love menghabiskan waktu selama dua tahun di Irlandia. Saat itu, dia berbohong tentang usianya dan belajar selama dua semester di Trinity College. Yang unik, sebelum menjadi bintang rock, dia mengambil jurusan Teologi. Disebutkan, penerima gelar kehormatan diwajibkan melindungi masyarakat dan menggunakan nama baik mereka untuk menjamin kelangsungan hidup lebih baik.
2. Robert Mugabe
Presiden Zimbabwe ini memiliki empat gelar dari University of London. Penguasa Zimbabwe sejak 1980 ini mendapatkan gelarnya melalui program belajar jarak jauh. 3. Kermit the Frog
Ikon serial populer Sesame Street ini dianugerahi gelar Doktor Kehormatan dalam Sastra Amfibi pada 19 Mei 1996 dari Southampton College, New York. Saat penganugerahan, Kermit the Frog memberikan pidato. Dua tahun sebelumnya, tokoh fenemoenal ini berbicara di hadapan 1.000 mahasiswa di Persatuan Masyarakat Oxford dan merupakan satu-satunya amfibi yang pernah melakukannya.
Dalam penganugerahan, Kermit menyatakan, “Tanggung jawab yang mewakili seluruh spesies bertumpu pada bahu saya”. 5. Mike Tyson
Petinju yang dropped out saat SMA ini menerima gelar kehormatan dari Central State University di Ohio, Amerika Serikat. Saat menyampaikan pidato penerimaan gelar, mantan narapidana ini menyampaikan kebingungannya. “Saya tidak yakin sesungguhnya gelar dokter apa yang saya terima, tapi melihat para suster yang cantik di sini, saya pikir akan menjadi dokter ginekologi,” katanya.
6. Orlando Bloom
Aktor berusia 33 tahun ini membawa orangtua dan istrinya saat menerima gelar kehormatan dari University of Kent, Inggris, tahun lalu. Padahal aktor tampan ini tidak lulus dari London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama karena sibuk syuting film trilogi yang sukses di pasaran, Lord of the Rings.
7. Bill Gates
Pendiri Microsoft ini dropped out dari Harvard University saat mengambil kuliah matematika. Dia tidak lulus karena sibuk menjalankan bisnis komputer dari kamar asramanya. Namun, 23 tahun kemudian, Gates dipanggil Harvard untuk menerima gelar doktor kehormatan.
Saat pidato menerima gelar kehormatan, Gates berkata, “Ayah, saya selalu bilang saya akan kembali dan mendapatkan gelar. Saya ingin berterima kasih kepada Harvard atas gelar kehormatan yang tepat waktu. Saya akan mengubah pekerjaan saya tahun depan. 8. Jeremy Clarkson

Pada 1985, akademisi memimpin kampanye melawan gelar kehormatan yang diberikan kepada Perdana Menteri Inggris Margaret Thatcher. Pasalnya, perempuan yang dijuluki Wanita Besi ini memotong dana pendidikan dan susu gratis bagi anak-anak. Saat memerintah, Thatcher menjadi perdana menteri pertama lulusan Oxford yang tidak menerima gelar doktor. Dia menerima penghargaan serupa dari universitas di Amerika Serikat dan Afrika Selatan.

So you think you’re hot stuff because you have 4,396 “friends”. Wow, your news is reaching a lot of people. Not. Facebook doesn’t necessarily serve up everything you post to everyone on your friends list. In the top right hand corner of your News Feed you’ll see Top News/Most Recent. The default is Top News. Using its own blend of secret sauce, Facebook serves up what it determines is most noteworthy for you to view - which friends are indeed the most engaged with you and Facebook in general. If they post quite often, “like” things and share, chances are you’ll be seeing them in your feed. If you want to be seen, interact and engage with your Facebook community. We’ll uncover more about this secret sauce in the next Tech Tip.
If you’d like to see everything that is being posted by your friends, then click the Most Recent tab. To have some control over what appears, click the drop down tab there and you’ll be able to select from Status Updates, Pages, Photos, Links and more. The Edit Options link will let you choose who you’d like (or not like) to see posts from.
Pro Tip:
Another way to pare down what you see is to organize your friends into Lists which is one of the options on that drop down menu. Start by going to http://www.facebook.com/friends. Click create a List and add the friends you want to group. If you then go to Edit My Profile and click on Featured People. Under Featured Friends you can now add the group or list you just created. Save your changes and return to your profile. You’ll see your Lists on the left hand nav bar for easy access.
Tagging
In addition to tagging people in photos, you can tag your friends or pages that you follow in your status updates. The great thing about this is that your status post will then appear on the Wall of that person or page. It used to require first using the @ sign, as in Twitter, to tag someone else. Facebook will now intuitively offer suggestions for you to choose from.
If that doesn’t happen, you can still access the list by using the @ symbol. Once you’ve made your choice the name will be highlighted and hyperlinked to their Facebook profile or page. If you don’t want to show the person’s full name, you can always delete the last name and the hyperlink will remain.One new controversial Facebook tool is facial recognition in photos. This simplifies the somewhat tedious tagging process that enables you to connect a face in a photo with an actual Facebook friend. Again, Facebook provides suggestions for individuals in photos for you to choose from.
Some privacy advocates have concerns that this feature is enabled by default. here’s how you disable it: 1. Go to your privacy settings.
2. Click “Customize settings.”
3. Scroll down to “Things others share.”
4. Find “Suggest photos of me to friends.
5. Edit accordingly.
You do have the option of untagging photos youve been tagged in by going to the photo and then click your name. There is no option to prevent friends from tagging you in photos, but you can prevent others from seeing the photos via your tagged name by adjusting your privacy settings.
Banner Me Up
You’ll notice a row of 5 images at the top of your profile. They are 97x68 thumbnails of pictures that you’ve been tagged in. If there is an image that you don’t want displayed, simply hover over it until you see an ‘x” in the top right hand corner. Click the “x” and the image is hidden but not deleted. This feature allows you to control your “banner”, so to speak. You can create your own using Photoshop, Picnik or some other image editing software. You start with a 485 x 68 banner and divide it into five 97x68 images. You will then tag yourself in each image but the key to remember is that the last image tagged will show on the left hand side. There are apps out there to help you create something fun or representative of you such as Profile Banner or Banner Maker.

Much like Yelp, Gowalla and Foursquare, Facebook Places lets you “check-in” to locations using a smartphone. You can tag yourself or other friends as well. We haven’t heard much about Facebook Places yet but stay tuned.What’s Happening

It allows you to see what your friends are commenting on and “liking” in real time. 7 Recap 9 squares and flowers
Over the last many weeks we tackled flamingos, London mist, moody landscapes and rivers, flowers and the sun. Enjoying our creative energy pushing paint on 900 square inches of linen canvas surface. With the exception of the subject, enough freedom to do our own thing.
Always striving for more paint, overall simplification with suggested shapes of colour.....not seriously detailed epics. Really learning how to use our materials - exploring and getting to know how things work. Developing intuitive motion, no serious thinking, just doing it! Not worrying near as much about composition as moving paint around on a canvas.
Yesterdays (9) square session was quite the opposite. It was a game of "tick-tack-toe" painting, a forced swim to paint the details, replicating each section closely as possible using lots of paint. The creative aspect of painting was all but removed.......mmmmm. How much fun could that be?
Nine square is painting nine small paintings complete to make one cohesive large painting. Perhaps nothing new about that, except its a random approach to develop awareness and observation skills on a microscopic level - an odd thing for a loose direct painting method, but effective.

Terry never missed a session and I believe attended most of the live demos before hand and it shows. Terry is making progress developing her own unique style of painting, and including using more paint with some lovely tonal colouring and brushwork too! Clearly stated by her second square....:=)
Uniquely different, but clean colour prevails with each artist.
WHEN A SQUARE GOES SOUTH WIPE IT OUT!
Ellens 2nd square didnt work so she wiped it out and tried another approach. This time a little more structural drawing as opposed to a direct painting.
Lesson: As we complete each square our approach is modified making the next smoother and so on.

From the start her colour sense and style lean heavily in the direction of luminous colours. She also did battle with her new home easel and ended up with a concussion - Im surprised she managed a good square at the end of the day.

Susan is the free sprit on the team so its a challenge for her to stay in the "Tick-Tack-Toe" lane. No question her brush and thought process are in sync!

We artists are funny creatures - we invariably take the complicated route whenever possible. We seem to have a need to challenge ourselves, reverse things - get things out of order - move em around a bit to suit. What we really do is set in motion more problem solving issues to deal with while painting.... absolutely not a bad thing.... desirable if you can multi-task and paint fast and confidently at the same time.
You want to avoid the brush lagging behind the thought process..........to enjoy painting, it has to sync up sooner than later. Its a deliberate fast moving action not accidental.

Problem solving is something that develops with experience. However when (as many of us are) at the front end, not quite sure and confident of ourselves, it can set us up for a good case of floundering....and often does.
Best advice, Learn how to paint an object first then mess with it. The rest will fall into place automatically when were ready and not a moment before.
